About YQG

Welcome to the official website of Windsor International Airport!

When the City of Windsor embarked upon a plan to capitalize on the airport, we first gave it a distinctive name, and a proper identity: Your Quick Gateway. YQG is more than just an airport code; it makes a strong statement that says, YQG is a portal for global travel and trade.

Every successful enterprise starts with a vision of the future. Our vision for YQG is to become a centre for business, a link in the new global economic supply chain, and a gateway to connect people, customers and partners worldwide.

Achieving this vision requires a well-thought-out strategic plan. For the first time in years, the airport has a strategic focus that builds on our strengths, aggressively exploits opportunities for growth, is based on sound financial planning and provides a critical path that enables us to meet our goals and objectives.

Since assuming control of the airport, there has been positive momentum as we move forward on our strategic goals and objectives.

Let the facts speak for themselves:
  1. YQG has generated positive net income and cash flow from increased aviation activity and effective cost control measures and is in a working capital surplus. This working capital surplus has been set aside to build up airport reserves for ongoing operations.

  2. Air traffic increased by 41 per cent in 2007 over the prior year and has exceeded each of 2001 through 2006 levels. We have seen steady month-over-month increases in the number of aircraft landings at YQG. The number of aircraft movements has reached year-high levels equivalent to those prior to 2000.

  3. Total number of domestic passengers has remained steady despite the economic downturns, capacity reductions and high fuel costs in the aviation industry across the globe.

  4. Air service development efforts to attract new airlines and charters for domestic, U.S. and international remains strong; however, this process requires time and patience to secure new routes. An airline's investment in a new route is in the millions of dollars (e.g. aircraft, counter, equipment, services, lease space, personnel); thus, it requires a thorough business analysis of the type and availability of aircraft, frequency of air service, selection of market, number of potential passengers and yield. Particularly in aviation, such decisions are garnered through trusted relationships, discussion, negotiations, analysis and planning over months.

  5. On the business development front, we are aggressively targeting and marketing to companies throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Our early stages of discussions with many of these companies have been overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to finalizing contracts with them in the near future.

  6. The staff at YQG has extensive aviation knowledge with an average 20-plus years experience and possesses the requisite expertise to manage and operate YQG, its regulatory environment and tenancy administration.
The airport is a critical piece of infrastructure, not only to the City of Windsor, but to the region as well. Over the last eight months, we have come a long way, but we realize that we have further to go to realize our goals and objectives and bring the airport to its full potential.

Your Quick Gateway is an enviable strategic asset located within 500 miles of key population centres and the largest industrial market in Canada and United States.

YQG is adjacent to major transportation corridors and intermodal facilities and has over 2,000 acres of development potential for distribution, manufacturing, office and retail developments and future cargo facilities. We are one of only eight airports in Canada and the only Ontario transhipment point for cargo. We have the longest runway between Detroit and Toronto, 24/7 resident customs and travellers can connect to any domestic, U.S. and international destinations with our existing air service provider. And that's just today.

Our recent success is the result of great teamwork at YQG and within the airport community. The door is always open to new ideas and business opportunities. We invite residents and stakeholders to join YQG in promoting this valuable resource. If we all work together, YQG will be successful, and will pay dividends to this community and its stakeholders for years to come.
